The U.S athletes were unable to compete in the Olympic Games for the year, 1980. This was a major issue for many of the athletes but also didn't even affect some of the other athletes. The majority of the athletes had trust in their President and believed that he was doing what was best to protect out country and was doing what was best for the future of our country but that didn't change the fact that this was a very sentimental issue for the athletes themselves. Even though they all knew this was what had to be done, each and every one of those athletes have been training to compete for almost their entire lives and have been looking forward to competing in the Games ever since they were children. Plus for some of those athletes it was the only chance they got at competing and winning a gold medal but that chance was quickly revoked by President Carter's decision. Besides the impact it had on the athletes the boycott also caused the Soviets to not show up to the next Olympic Games and they created their own boycott in Los Angeles, but is was not nearly as successful as our 1980 boycott. As for everyday life, the boycott didn't really effect daily life for anyone besides the fact that the United States wasn't able to prove ourselves at the games.
